When the time draws near for your emissions test, a renewal notice will be sent indicating if and when a test must be completed. If you buy a used vehicle, a renewal reminder won't be sent; instead, it's your responsibility to ensure your vehicle is tested within 30 days.

The act put each state in charge of controlling vehicle emissions. Right now, Connecticut’s air exceeds federal health standards for ozone. To make our state's environment healthier, biannual emissions testing is required for most vehicles.
